Davis Mac-Iyalla is a brave man. In 2005, he founded Changing Attitude-Nigeria to help Christian gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender people overcome virulent hatred and widespread prejudice in his country. His activities have been disowned by his church - the Anglican Church of Nigeria. He has been arrested and beaten. His government is considering a ban on all gay organizations and social gatherings. He has received death threats and gone into hiding. Through it all, he has held fast to his Christian faith and become an inspiration to faithful gay Africans and others around the world. He is currently on a speaking tour of the United States and will visit The Episcopal Church of Saint Thomas the Apostle in Dallas on Saturday June 30 and Sunday July 1. All are welcome.

Davis is terrific, and he'll be an inspiring speaker. I hope many people will hear his powerful story.
ReplyDeleteI got to know Davis well in Dar es Salaam, where he was a strong witness to primates, reporters, conservative activists, and all with whom he spoke.
He is great. He spoke at my church the other night, and I wrote about it here.
