Louise Emerson Brooks: rise in glory

Rise in glory Louise, valiant warrior for LGBT rights around the world. From her wife: Susan Russell:
"After a valiant fight and surrounded by love and light my Louise left us this afternoon shortly after 3:30. We are devastated and so very grateful for the tremendous care she received, the abundant prayers that surrounded her and for the peaceful and painless end of a long, courageous struggle."
Add you thoughts and remembrances here at the blog in the comments.

  1. So sad to read this. May light perpetual shine upon Louise, and sending up prayers for Rev. Susan and their family as they move through this period of transition and grief.

  2. Dear Susan,

Louise got me on the right road when we were working in Hawaii to lobby both the diocese and the legislature to pass marriage equality and implement the resolutions of GC 2009. Her kindness, responsiveness, and great insight into people were a great blessing of support to someone who had never met her in person. I asked after her this year at GC and was told she was ill, I am so glad to have virtually met her, she touched my life with God's grace. My sympathies for your loss and my joy at her undoubted reunion with Christ and our Father in Heaven.

May Christ bless you and support you in this difficult transition!

    Aloha,

  4. Lord, you who wept at Lazarus' tomb, weep now with our friend Susan even as we do grieve with her. How unbelievably sad to hear even though I only know Rev. Russell because of her twitter account.

  5. Susan, my deepest sympathy and my heartfelt gratitude mingle for you and Louise. May she rest in peace, rise in glory, and may light perpetual shine upon her. And may the mighty hands of God shelter you, comfort you, and bring you peace during this time of mourning and sorrow.

  6. My partner and I send our thoughts and prayers to you and your departed wife. May she live in glory in the light of the Lord forever. I cant imagine how difficult this must be for you. I dont know what I would do if I lost my Lisa. Its sad that death must be a part of life, but we all know that she will live on in spirit and memmory, and will be waiting for you to join her someday when you are called home. Until then may the peace and comfort of the Lord be with you and strengthen you.

  8. Susan, you and I are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses who love you and loved Louise as well. As we share our grief, they lift us up and support us. I wish I could be there to give you the hugs John's and my friends and relatives gave me.
